The
Morning Star Holiness Church was founded in the year of
1940; in the home of Sister Daisy Smith by Evangelist
Nettie Bumside and Sister Taylor both of West Virginia
would heed the call for souls. For approximately one
year the pair traveled to and from West Virginia holding
meetings in Mother Smith’s home. Evangelist Nettie
Bumside was later installed as Pastor of the Morning
Star Church.
After faithfully serving the Lord and her congregation,
Evang. Bumside was called from labor to reward on June
17,1972. The mantle was passed on to Elder Chestly
Hargrove her assistant, who labored in the vineyard for
22 years. Souls were saved under his leadership and
guidance. He not only labored for the building of
spiritual houses, he was also well known for the
construction of physical structures including the former
edifice of Greater Morning Star Church. On February
21,1994, the Lord called Pastor Hargrove home to rest.
From February 1994 to March 1995, the Morning Star
Church was without a pastor but Minster Billy Ross
assumed the responsibility under the leadership of the
Virginia State Council and others.
On March 12,1995, Dr. Eula Payne-Williams was appointed
by Bishop Clarence Moore, diocesan of the Virginia State
Council as interim pastor and installed as pastor July
26,1997. During her term as Pastor many souls were saved
and delivered.
